Payments overview
Every time a customer pays for internet, whether for a hotspot package, a PPPoE subscription or a static IP, ISPMan records the payment, credits the money to that customer’s wallet and uses it to pay for their service. This section explains where that money goes, how you set up the way you get paid, and where to see and withdraw it.
Two ways to get paid
Section titled “Two ways to get paid”How money reaches you depends on what you set up under Settings → Payments Settings:
| Setup | Where the customer’s money lands | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| ISPMan collects for you (no payment provider of your own enabled for that service) | ISPMan’s collection account. Your share builds up in your collection wallet. | Withdraw to M-Pesa from Payments → Withdrawals. |
| Your own payment provider (your M-Pesa Paybill, Till, a bank Paybill, Paystack and others) | Straight into your own account with that provider. | Nothing to withdraw. ISPMan still records the payment and connects the customer. |
You can mix the two. For example, use your own M-Pesa Till for hotspot payments and let ISPMan collect PPPoE payments. See Payment settings.
How a payment flows
Section titled “How a payment flows”- The customer pays. On the hotspot captive portal they pick a package and approve the M-Pesa prompt on their phone. PPPoE and static customers can also pay to their account number on your Paybill.
- ISPMan receives the confirmation from the payment provider and records it under Payments → Received.
- The money goes into the customer’s wallet. Each customer has a wallet identified by their account number.
- The wallet pays for the service.
- Hotspot: the wallet pays for the package the customer picked and they are connected. Money that is not spent stays in the wallet so the customer can use it for a package later.
- PPPoE and statics: the payment renews the customer’s subscription when it covers it. Otherwise it stays in the wallet until it is used.
- Your share moves to your collection wallet (when ISPMan collects for you), ready to withdraw.
- You withdraw to your M-Pesa cash-out number after verifying with your authenticator app.
