Items and stock
Inventory → Items (/dashboard/inventory/items) lists every item type you
can stock and how much is available right now. This is where you record stock
as it arrives.
The items table
Section titled “The items table”| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Item Type | The type’s name. Types that come with every account are marked Default. You can filter by name. |
| Unit | How it’s counted: meter, piece, and so on. |
| Category | For example cabling, CPE, network, consumables, power. |
| Available | Units left across all batches. The table is sorted by this by default, so the lowest stock is easy to find. |
| Stock | OK, or Low / reorder when available stock is at or below the type’s reorder level. Types without a reorder level always show OK. |
Default item types
Section titled “Default item types”Every account starts with these common types:

| Network | MikroTik Router, OLT, Switch, Access Point, Optical Splitter, Media Converter, Patch Panel |
| Consumables | Connector |
| Infrastructure | Pole |
| Power | UPS, Power Supply |
Add stock
Section titled “Add stock”Record each delivery as a batch, so you know where stock came from and requests draw down the oldest stock first.
-
Click Add Stock.
-
Fill in the form:
Field Required Notes Item Type Yes Shown with its unit, for example Fiber Cable (meter). Quantity Yes In the type’s unit. Decimals are allowed, for example 152.5meters.Supplier (optional) No Who you bought it from. Unit cost (optional) No Cost per unit, for your records. Store / location (optional) No Where it’s kept, for example Main store, Kasarani.Notes (optional) No Anything else, such as a delivery note number. -
Click Add Stock. You’ll see “Stock added to inventory” and the Available count goes up.
Each top-up is recorded in the audit log.
If you see “Enter a valid quantity”, the quantity is empty or not a number. “You are not allowed to add stock” means your role can’t write to inventory.
Create an item type
Section titled “Create an item type”When you stock something the defaults don’t cover (clips, cable ties, drop wire), add your own type.
-
Click New Item Type.
-
Fill in:
Field Required Notes Name Yes What staff will see, for example Cable Tie.Code (unique slug, e.g. cable_tie) Yes A short unique ID. It can’t be changed later. Unit (meter, piece, kilo, box, …) Yes How it’s counted. It can’t be changed later. Category No Group it with similar items. Reorder level (optional) No Available count at which the type is flagged Low / reorder. Description No Notes for your team. -
Click Create. You’ll see “Item type created”.
If you get “Could not create item type (check the code is unique)”, another type already uses that code. Pick a different one.
To change a custom type’s name, category, reorder level or description later, use Inventory settings.
- Choose units carefully. Requests and stock are counted in the type’s unit, and you can’t change the unit once the type exists. Cable is easiest in meters, devices by the piece.
- Set reorder levels on the things you can’t run out of (ONUs, drop cable, connectors), so the Items page warns you in time.
- Stock only goes down through approved requests. Add Stock only adds, so check quantities before you save a batch.
